I Poured Vinegar into My Toilet to Clean It. Here’s What Happened!
Cleaning the toilet is never anyone’s favorite chore—but what if there was a simple, natural way to tackle stains, odors, and buildup without harsh chemicals? Enter white vinegar, a pantry staple that doubles as a powerful, eco-friendly cleaner. Curious about how well it works, I decided to give it a try—and the results were eye-opening.
Why Vinegar Works
White vinegar is acidic, which makes it excellent at:
- Breaking down mineral deposits like limescale
- Removing stains caused by rust or hard water
- Neutralizing odors naturally
- Disinfecting surfaces without toxic chemicals
Unlike traditional chemical cleaners, vinegar is safe to use, environmentally friendly, and inexpensive.
The Experiment
Here’s what I did:
- Pouring the vinegar: I poured about 2 cups of white vinegar directly into the toilet bowl, making sure to coat the sides and under the rim.
- Letting it sit: I allowed the vinegar to sit for 30 minutes. For tough stains, it can be left overnight.
- Scrubbing: Using a toilet brush, I scrubbed the bowl thoroughly, focusing on stubborn rings and stains.
- Flushing: After scrubbing, I flushed the toilet to rinse away residue.
